TROLLING WITH LIVE FISHING OF THE DENTICE

SUZUKI VIESTE (14).jpg

Where does snapper live?

The snapper lives near the coast, with preference for rocky or sandy bottoms, rich in posidonia and at a depth that varies on average between 15 and 120 meters. (Depending on the season we will threaten it in summer, with warmer waters closer to the coast, in winter when the water temperature will be lower we should move deeper.)

Generally solitary, only when young it moves in banks and stops on soft and rich seaweed backdrops near rocks and expired.

What does snapper eat?

It feeds on molluscs, cephalopods and fish.
Being among the shrewd predators of our seas, I recommend:
- Possibly always live and fit bait (the bait running away, induces the attack of the fish)
- Prefer the squid they are greedy for (my favorite bait, although ... vary bait ...)
- Try to change bait often (both in summer and in winter) and direction of travel (current and counter current) the rod could start immediately
- Other excellent baits can be the bites, the saurians, very often also the looks turned out to be excellent baits

The reproduction takes place in spring (March-May), in this season, like most sparidae, during mating they gather in the so-called "rams", and it is easy to have more strikes, try in these moments not to be greedy and to always respect the sea and its environment.

My fishing trips to the dentex

for this fishing during charters the morning shift is divided into 2 shifts which runs from 05:00 until 11:00 while the afternoon shift runs from 14:00 until sunset.

for this fishing I use Sunrise rods: a Top Shot L and the new La Top Shot P3 with Avet reels.

for the red snapper fishing we travel 12 miles of navigation from the coast going to a place called forts: this is a shoal that is 35 meters deep where the highest point is 33 meters.

This is the fishing I practice most often, which is the one that gives you so many emotions.

This fishing consists in using a live bait: I use Cuttlefish and Calamari and when it is not their period I go to Lacerti with flags. Our live bait is baited with 2 hooks one in the mouth and the second on the tail, after which we lower it to the bottom thanks to the help of a 1500kg guardian lead.

Many ask me but what do you use such heavy lead for? I use a lead so heavy that in our area there are strong currents and with other lighter leads they take them elsewhere while with a heavier lead I always find it under my boat.

Once we are fishing we use Suzuki's DF20 auxiliary motor so as to reduce our consumption during trolling as much as possible.

with our boat we move on the various points on our GPS and with the help of our echo sounder we can see the seabed as it appears and the fish that pass underneath it.

When I go to an area unknown to me I use the Lowrance 3D structurescan it is a probe with a control unit connected to our instruments and allows us to see the seabed as if we saw it with the naked eye: it shows us if the seabed is rocky , sandy, with algae and even rocks where Snappers could hide.

Once we have identified our marking, we try to make our bait look as natural as possible: if the fish has not eaten, we take a round tour with the boat in order to try to make it put our bait right in front of it, once who has eaten I accompany the rod above without shoeing for me to use self-powered cars and we start the fight.
